Matt Byrne and Bruce Chiang, Hood River Valley's No. 1 tennis tandem, continues its Intermountain Conference rampage.
Byrne and Chiang on May 6 defeated Pendleton's No. 1 team Paul Carollo and Brant Lloyd 6-3, 6-2.
Chiang and Byrne have won three straight since losing to Bend's No. 1 doubles Joel Hehn and Alex Nase 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 on May 2. Chiang and Byrne are now 6-1 in Intermountian Conference play.
Unfortunately, Byrne and Chiang represented just one of Hood River Valley's two victories against Pendleton.
Alec Asbridge continues his rebound from an injured right shoulder. He bounced back from a 0-6 set against No. 2 singles opponent Darren Ransharan to win 7-5, 6-3.
The Eagles lost to Pendleton 2-6.
"Hermiston is probably the toughest team from top to bottom," said Hood River Valley coach Mike Oates. "We beat them two matches and played them tough in two other matches. We played well."
Pendleton could be Hood River Valley's last league match of the season before initiating districts on Thursday in Redmond. The Eagles, might, however, be able to squeeze in a postponed match against Mountain View.
Girls Tennis:
The girls on May 6 defeated Pendleton 7-1 but struggled to a 2-6 loss to Bend a week earlier.
Hood River Valley’s two wins came from No. 1 singles Emily Sager, who won 6-3, 6-2 and from No. 2 singles Erin Hart who demoslished her opponent 6-0, 6-1.
