The fifth annual Mid-Columbia Welding Championship event was held in Dufur, Ore., on April 18, and once again Columbia High School students finished strong.
Columbia High School vocational metalworking students competed against 30 other welding participants from the mid-Columbia region.
Jesse Bryan took the championship in the student division. Bryan, a senior, won a 225-amp Miller welding machine as his prize.
Other top finishers included: J.R. Dickey (a 2001 CHS graduate), 2nd place in the amateur division; Luke Vermeire freshman, 3rd place in the student category; Ben Lastofka, junior, 4th place (student); Jake Wilkes, senior, 5th place (student); Alex Riley, freshman, 8th place (student); Shawn Thies, junior, 9th place (student); Izak Riley, junior, 10th place (student); Corry Atkisson, junior, 15th place, (student).
Welding students enter these contests to increase their skills and to meet students from other area schools with similar interests.
