Bruce and Jan Brending will serve as the 2011 White Salmon Spring Festival parade Grand Marshals.
The Brendings, who have lived in White Salmon for 24 years, married in 1987 in Oregon City, Ore.
Jan Brending, who serves as city administrator for the city of Bingen, serves as a board member of Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, is the treasurer for Grace Baptist Church, and is a member of the Washington Finance Officer's Association and the Washington Municipal Clerk's Association.
Bruce Brending, the former police chief of the Bingen-White Salmon Police Department, is a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and has been an EMT/Paramedic for 13 years.
When considering her accomplishments, Jan said her family is at the top.
"I am proudest of raising two beautiful daughters -- Corrie, who is 15, and Sarah, 19 -- and the changes I have helped assist Bingen in accomplishing -- such as the new City Hall building, downtown revitalization, and improvements to the park, including the new skatepark," she said.
Bruce said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the community as a law enforcement officer and as an emergency medical responder.
"I'm proud I was able to work with some of the very best law enforcement and medical/fire professionals found anywhere in the nation, and to have been able to mentor young officers and watch them become leaders now serving their respective communities," he said. "Also, that I was able to overcome personal and political challenges and still provide a level of public safety that the community could be proud of. Personally, catching the bank robber coming out of the bank was one of many career highlights."
The Spring Festival parade will roll through downtown White Salmon on Saturday, June 4, beginning at 11 a.m.
