Hood River author Scott Sadil is one of five authors nominated for the Oregon Book Awards Fiction honor.
Sadil is honored for his selection of short stories, "Lost in Wyoming" (Barclay Creek Press).
Sadil, the author of other volumes of fiction and essays, teaches English at Hood River Valley High School. His latest book is a collection of essays, "Fly Tales: Lessons in Fly Fishing Like the Real Guys" (Barclay Creek).
Sadil said, "Naturally I'm delighted that 'Lost in Wyoming' has been selected as a finalist for such a prestigious award.
"What makes the selection especially gratifying, however, is that it suggests the literary community recognizes my work is about something more than finding and fooling fish. All of our lives - even the lives of fly fishers - are bigger than that."
Also nominated for the Ken Kesey Fiction Award are: Emily Chenoweth of Portland, "Hello Goodbye" (Random House); K.B. Dixon of Portland, "A Painter's Life" (Inkwater Press); Jane Kirkpatrick of Moro, "A Flickering Light" (WaterBrook Press) and Willy Vlautin of Portland, "Lean on Pete" (Harper Perennial).
Literary Arts announced the finalists and special awards recipients for the 24th annual Oregon Book Awards. Kurt Andersen will host the April 25 ceremony, which honors the state's finest accomplishments by Oregon writers who work in genres of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction and young readers literature.
