CAST will be holding auditions for the holiday production of A Christmas Carol by Christopher Schario, based on the story by Charles Dickens, on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. at the Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River.
Focusing on Dickens' powerful language, humor and warmth, this charming version of A Christmas Carol simply and directly tells the story of the redemption of a human soul. The play follows the ever-powerful story of the lonely miser Scrooge who, through the help of spirits and visions from his past, present and future, finds a second chance to become a loving, generous human being.
With traditional carols and English folk tunes creating the proper atmosphere, the world of Scrooge, Fezziwig and Tiny Tim comes alive, igniting the holiday spirit for young and old alike.
A Christmas Carol is a partnership between CAST and Columbia Gorge Community College theatre department. The play is directed by Richard Parker, theatre instructor at the college and frequent performer and director for CAST.
The company is comprised of students registered for the theatre rehearsal and performance class at CGCC and CAST community actors. Anyone who registers for the theatre class at CGCC participates as either a cast member or member of the technical crew and receives college credit for the performance; interested students should register by Sept. 21.
There are roles to accommodate a cast of 15 to 30 actors of all ages, including several children between the ages of 8 and 12. There is no need to prepare anything for the auditions which will be comprised of cold readings from the script.
While this adaptation is not a musical, a number of carols will be sung by members of the ensemble, and singers and musicians are encouraged to participate.
Rehearsals will start on Sept. 25, and the production will run from Dec. 6 through Dec. 15.
