South Wasco County came from behind last Saturday to defeat Klickitat 52-46 in overtime in the girls championship game of the South Wasco Basketball Tournament in Maupin, Ore.
The host Redsides outscored the visiting Vandals 8-2 in the extra period after rallying in the fourth quarter to tie the game up 44-all at the end of regulation.
Senior guard Trisheena Keys hit four 3-point baskets and scored 16 points to lead the Vandals, who dropped to 2-1 on the season.
South Wasco, which scored the game's first basket but didn't regain the lead until overtime, was paced by Leah Kresse (18 points, 4/5 3-pointers), Annie Larlee (17 points, 5 steals), Hailey Hauser (15 rebounds, 10 points) and Chelsea Alsup (11 assists).
Larlee provided the spark in overtime that sent the Redsides past the Vandals. Before fouling out midway through the OT, she made three steals that led to five South Wasco points (a basket and three free throws).
The best Klickitat could do in overtime against a stifling South Wasco defense was net one basket in two attempts.
Klickitat 38, Life Christian 18:
The Vandals owned the second half of last Friday's tournament semifinal game against the Lions.
Klickitat (2-0) improved an 18-16 halftime advantage by outscoring Life Christian 20-2 during the final 16 minutes of play.
Seniors Aryn Davis, Melissa Huwe and Trisheena Keys accounted for the bulk of the Vandals scoring. Davis tallied 15 points, Huwe had 10 and Keys made six.
Samantha Brewer added five points and Kali Linville chipped in two.
