Under partly sunny skies the Cooper Spur Race Team organized a two-day ski race.
The Jack Baldwin was held on Saturday, Jan. 21, and over 230 racers from six Oregon-based teams competed at Cooper Spur Ski Area.
The younger racers go first and take only one timed run. The boy and girls age 9-13 take two timed runs and the winners are based on a combined total time. The slalom course is reset between thier first and second run, and skiers have time to inspect the new set up before they take their second run. Our young girls team swept the first 3 places in the 6 and under girls. Annalyssa Sassara won her second race of the season, Shae Duffy took 2nd, and Claire Davies took 3rd place. Standouts were Elie Truax with a 2nd place finish in the 7 and 8 girls, Austin Keillor in his first race with a 2nd place finish in the 7 and 8 boys, Kaili Duffy our only top ten finisher in the 9-10 girls, and Ricki Swearingen with a 2nd place finish in the 11-12 girls.

The Diamond Dual was held on Sunday, January 22nd. The format is a dual slalom, where skiers race against the clock and a fellow competitor. Skiers from Cooper Spur Race Team, Multomah Athletic Club, Mount Hood Race Team, Meadows Race Team, Willamette Athletic Race Program, and STEK brought teams to compete at Cooper Spur Ski Area. In all, 216 skiers raced under partly sunny skies. The 8 and under girls and boys each took one timed run, while the 9-13 year olds took two timed runs, alternating courses. Standouts for the team were the 6 and under girls team, sweeping the first 4 places. Annalyssa Sassara took 1st, Callie Crumpacker 2nd, Shae Duffy 3rd, and Claire Davies 4th place. Youngest team member is Chloe Kurahara, who at 4 years old, finished in 8th place. Kellie Clarke in the 7 and 8 girls finished in 3rd place. Our 7 and 8 boys team took 7 of the top 10 spots, with William Lamer taking top honors. Ricki Swearingen finished in 2nd place in the 11-12 girls.

The next race will be held at Mt Hood Ski Bowl, February 4th and 5th. It is our last qualifier to make the Buddy Werner team.
