Welders of all abilities are invited to test their skills next Tuesday during the Mid-Columbia Arc Welding Championships, slated for 3-8 p.m. in Columbia High School's vocational education shop.
The April 26 event, billed as "a free contest to determine the best arc welder in the Mid-Columbia area," is open to students (9th grade and up), adult amateurs and professionals.
Judges Jim Jeter, Arne Mosbrucker and Terry Mitchell will review the work by contestants in those three categories and award sponsors' prizes to the first- and second-place finishers in each.
The top student in the competition will receive a Lincoln Arc Welder as grand prize.
Pre-registration is required and can be completed by contacting Chris Hipskind at (509) 493-3668, ext. 210.
"Time allows for 30 welders," Hipskind noted. "Half-hour time slots will be allocated in the order registrations are received, and the half-hour time limit will be strictly enforced."
