It's election season again, and our "letters to the editor" section is beginning to bulge with our readers' political viewpoints.
We publish virtually every letter we receive, and to accommodate the excess flow in this election year, we will strive to create additional room in our newspaper to fit them all in.
We urge writers to keep their messages relatively concise -- 400 words is a good ball-park figure to have in mind. Keeping letters relatively brief helps free up more room for others to have their say.
We welcome and encourage letters from all points of view; the "Opinion" page is just that, and everyone's viewpoints are respected and appreciated.
Please remember that we will not run negative or "attack" letters after the Oct. 23 issue. This policy is designed to allow supporters of a candidate at least a week to respond to any charges made against a candidate. Letters that praise and support a political candidate are welcome anytime. The last week that political letters will be relevant will be our Oct. 30 issue, as the election comes on Nov. 4.
