Two local gymnasts from Hood River's Gorge Gymnastics team scored big at last Friday's Judges Cup gymnastics meet in Troutdale, Ore.
As a result of their performances, Cedar Willey, 11, and Allie Spadaro, 10, of White Salmon will be headed to the Northern Oregon sectional meet in November, in Clackamas.
In Level 6 competition, Willey took first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.15. She placed third on the vault with a 9.0, and received scores of 8.9 on the floor exercise and 6.1 on the uneven bars. Her all-around score of 33.15 earned her a spot in the sectional meet.
Spadaro, competing at Level 5, qualified for sectionals with an all-around score of 32.75. She scored 8.6 on the beam for second place in the event took fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 8.55. Her scores on the vault and bars were 8.3 and 6.6 respectively.
The Gorge Gymnastics team also got a strong performance by Sammi Tardiff, 7, of Trout Lake. Tardiff received scores of 8.2 on both the vault and the floor, 5.75 on the beam and 5.35 in her first competition on bars. Her all-around score of 27.50 was ninth best in her age group.
