UPDATE: The Klickitat County Sheriff's Office has reported that Charles W. Loyd was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a brief vehicle pursuit in Portland.
The Klickitat County Sheriff's Office continued the search for Charles "Charlie" W. Loyd, who escaped from the Klickitat County Jail early Monday morning.
Loyd, also known as Charles W. Foley, escaped from the jail around 5 am Monday and is still at large. Loyd was incarcerated on the charges of Robbery First Degree, Kidnapping First Degree, Burglary First Degree, Assault Second Degree, and two counts of Theft of a Firearm.
Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Kaley said Loyd escaped by running out the back door of the Sheriff’s Office, but that the circumstances surrounding his escape are still under investigation.
Kaley could not recall exactly when the last prisoner escaped from the County Jail, but said it had been “several years ago,” and that prisoners have been more likely to escape when being transported between the courthouse and the jail, or vice versa, rather than directly from the jail.
In the release, KCSO urged members of the public to keep their vehicles locked and secured, as it is believed that Loyd may attempt to acquire transportation to flee from the Goldendale area. KCSO further advises that no one should attempt to contact or apprehend Loyd.
Loyd is described as a 38-year-old white male, 6 feet tall, 230 pounds, with brown eyes.
KCSO investigated several leads that were reported on Nov. 3 regarding Loyd’s whereabouts with no success, according to a second release issued on Tuesday.
On Nov. 4, an arrest warrant for second degree escape was issued by the Klickitat County Superior Cour for Loyd’s arrest.
Anyone with information as to Loyd’s whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement agency or KCSO at 509-773-4455.
