A sharp conflict of opinion between the Klickitat County Fair Board and designated Fair Queen Kassandra Wedgwood has led to the teen resigning her post almost simultaneous to her picture appearing on the cover of 6,300 copies of the 2016 Fair Premium Book.
Wedgwood announced her decision on the Fair’s Facebook. “It is with much heartache that I inform you all I have resigned as 2016 Klickitat County Fair and Rodeo Queen,” she wrote. “It has been my honor to represent our amazing community, and I thank you all for your support. I wish you all much luck and fun at the fair.”
Fair board President Robin Goodnight says the incident is behind them. “It’s a very sad situation,” Goodnight states. “Out of respect for Kassandra and her family, we aren’t going to say more than that.”
At one point in recent weeks the issue became contentious enough for the board to obtain legal advice for an opinion on potential liability if the board were to dismiss Wedgwood from her position, according to a source close to the situation. The board chose to retain Wedgwood.
