Sverre BakkeJordan Murphy scored her second hat trick of the season here Sept. 22 to propel the Columbia High girls soccer team to its first Trico League win of 2015.
The Bruins led the Bull-dogs 5-0 at the half as Olivia Grim netted two goals, and Aidan Liddiard and Lauren Thiesies each tallied one. CHS also received a goal credit when Stevenson mishandled a corner kick by Thiesies into its own net.
Columbia led 1-0 in the eighth minute on the own goal. Liddiard made it in the 11th with a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box.
Grim hit a direct kick from 35 yards, just to the left of center, for her first tally, and scored again with a finish at the end of a Thiesies corner kick. Thiesies made it 5-0 with an unassisted goal.
Murphy tacked on three goals in the second half, including the team’s final score off a well-placed cross from Claire Anderson, from the right sideline.
Stacia Bell added a bonus goal when she scored unassisted from the right sideline from 35 yards.
“She cracked it, and it hit in the upper right corner,” Bruins Coach Amy Kasenga said. “It was a beautiful goal.”
CHS limited Stevenson to one shot, and it was off-target “because I have no keeper saves for that match,” noted Kasenga.
“It was a good match for us to work on some things, get more players onto the field,”said Kasenga, “and learn how to score goals again.”
Seton 4, at Columbia 0: The visiting Cougars led 3-0 at halftime last Thursday on the way to a shutout win.
The score notwithstanding, “it was very even,” said Kasenga. “They just had great shots and finished well. From our side, their goalkeeper had to make some tough saves,” including one on a penalty kick try.
Standouts for CHS included center defender Mailisa MacNally and forward Beth-any Putnam.
“Mailisa was unbeatable back there, and Bethany created a lot of attacks for us,” Kasenga noted.
