Friday at Kurtz Gym, the 5A classification’s fifth-best scoring defense (38.5 points a game) was on full display in a 43-33 triumph Friday versus St. Helens.
The Lady Lions were held to 12 field goals, six in the first half, while TD’s Kilee Hoylman scored seven points and Lauryn Belanger dropped six points to help the Riverhawks to a 23-16 halftime cushion.
With 54 seconds left in the third quarter, St. Helens inched to within 30-26 after a basket by Madison Holm, but over the last 8:54, The Dalles went on a 13-7 run.
Kilee Hoylman paced the Hawks with 12 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists, Rainie Codding chipped in nine points and 13 boards and Lauryn Belanger had a six-point total to go along with 10 rebounds, a steal and two assists.
All told, TD hit 14 field goals, one 3-pointer, and made 14 of 33 free throws.
Jenna Miller cashed in seven points and six rebounds, Ellie Codding was good for six points and six rebounds, and Molly Taylor finished with three points, five rebounds, a steal, a block and two assists.
TD pulled down 57 rebounds, 34 on the offensive glass, had 16 pass deflections, seven steals and eight assists.
Holm led all scorers with 22 points, McKayla Foster knocked in four and Kaela Lee added three points for the Lions.
The Dalles (6-5 overall) starts league play at 6:30 p.m. Friday at home versus Crook County (1-10).
Jacob Hernandez and Dalles Seufalemua combine for 30 points to lead The Dalles boys to a 56-47 road victory over St. Helens in a non-league boys basketball game played Friday.
Over the first 16 minutes, The Dalles held a 28-25 advantage until second-half spurts of 10-9 and 18-13 put them over the top.
Hernandez poured in 19 points, Seufalemua tacked on 11 and both Oscar Fernandez and Josh Nisbet chipped in eight points for the Riverhawks, who tallied 21 field goals, seven 3-pointers, and shot 7 of 14 free throws.
St. Helens connected on 19 field goals, eight 3-pointers, and made 1 of 2 from the line with Parker Miller going for 16 points and Gavin Knoke putting in 15 points.
Up next after Tuesday’s game against Goldendale, Wash., The Dalles (4-7 overall) heads to Prineville for league play at 6:30 p.m. Friday versus No. 11 Crook County (8-5).
