Morgan Goslin led all hitters with her 4 for 4 performance and three RBIs, and senior Morgan Triperinas rifled her second home run and drove in four more runs to lead No. 1-ranked and undefeated The Dalles to an 11-7 triumph over Redmond in a non-league softball contest Wednesday at Redmond High School.
With her round tripper, Triperinas now leads the Tribe with nine RBIs in the two wins.
“Trip continues to carry a hot bat for us,” said TD coach Steve Garrett of his senior hurler/infielder. “Just as she did all of last season. She has been our most consistent hitter over the past two years. Nice, smooth level swing and the ball is jumping out of the park for her so far this year.”
With early questions surrounding the Eagle Indian offense, the team has answered the critics thus far with 21 runs on 21 hits in 14 innings.
In addition to the offensive explosion by Goslin and Triperinas, leadoff hitter Hannah Harris was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored, and Sierra Watson tacked on with two singles and two RBIs.
Just as they did Monday, TD fell behind 6-3 after one frame, but landed the knockout blow in the top of the third inning with eight runs on five hits.
Ruthie Ford led off with a walk and then Goslin checked in with her second single of the game to move Ford to second.
With two runners on base, Triperinas ripped a shot to deep left centerfield that skimmed the edge of the piping along the top of the fence for a three-run home to tie the contest at 6-apiece.
But they weren’t done there.
Maddy Bradford advanced to second base on an error, and after a passed ball sent her to third, Watson delivered with a deep RBI sacrifice fly to center that brought in Bradford with the go-ahead run to make it, 7-6.
Jez Farrell followed with a base on balls, and then courtesy runner, Delaney Schanno, moved up to second base one out later on a single by Kailin Hoylman.
Harris worked a walk to load the bases with two away to set the stage for Ruthie Ford.
The sophomore took advantage of her opportunity, as she stroked a single over short to bring in Schanno to make it 8-6.
On the play, Hoylman hustled to third base and Harris motored to second to put runners in scoring position for Goslin.
The junior third baseman then delivered the mail with a bases-clearing double to the wall in left to stretch the lead to 11-6 and cap the scoring for the Eagle Indians.
Garrett also had lauds for the other Morgan.
“Gos is special. She lights up this team with her wit and her humor,” says Garrett with a chuckle. “I look over to the bench in a big inning and there is Goslin, standing by the dugout door with her batting helmet on backwards, awaiting her turn to punch out another hit. You got to just love that kind of kid.”
While the Eagle Indians savor the two early wins, they will have their mettle tried and tested on Friday as they host the reigning 5A state champion Sandy Pioneers at 4 p.m. at 16th Street Ballpark.
“We will have to bring out A-game on Friday that is for sure,” said Garrett. “We have a lot of talent on this team, young as they are. I am excited about the prospects for this club.”
