Jony Nelson, Emily Morin and Spencer Honald each tallied top-10 status to lead The Dalles cross country team to a solid finish Saturday at the Oregon City XC Invitational at Oregon City High School.
“As coaches, we thought overall that the team ran very well at Oregon City,” TD head coach Bob Thouvenel said.
Of the large class of Riverhawk runners spanning junior varsity and varsity, six chalked up personal bests and 11 set seasonal bests on the course.
On the varsity side, Nelson, a sophomore, crossed the tape in 17 minutes and 13.90 seconds for a seventh-place tie amongst the field of 97 harriers.
Andy Felderman (18:28.19), Luke McLean (18:35.07), Johnny Miller (18:50.08) and Ian Corey (19:21.35) rounded out the Riverhawk participants.
The varsity girls were led once again by Morin, who hustled home in seventh place and stopped the clock in an impressive 29:39.55.
Avery Cardosi checked in at 22:14.58, Molly Nelson opened eyes with a 23:01.93, and Kellina Coy added a time of 23:52.18 for the Riverhawk varsity leaders.
For the junior varsity girls, Luisa Meyer breezed through the 5,000-meters with a marker of 25:55.55 to secure 19th place in the group of 96 runners.
Allie Wood (27:30.18), Tai Rogers (27:55.32), Whitney Scott (29:17.31) and Samantha Beall (29:40.50) capped TD’s runners.
Honald, a freshman, kept his time under 20 minutes for a 19:26.73 for fifth place.
Ethan Shubert turned in a 19:52.82, Murphy Goldsberry garnered a 20:04.70, Mitchell Waters motored home in 20:28.39 and Mark Felderman was good enough for a 20:32.76.
Robert Westhafer (20:40.27), Tyrell Evans (21:05), Chase Nagamatsu (21:13.29), Jacob Mekediak (21:14.92), Isaac Garcia (21:28.20), Sant Strassheim (21:32.11), Chris Montecalvo (21:52.90), Bill Burns (22:33.87) and Joseph Linebarger (23:05.25) were the top-14 of The Dalles’ 19 junior varsity harriers.
This week, The Dalles has the Bridgette Nelson Memorial Invitational on Friday with the middle school running at 3:30 p.m.
