Last week’s image of a shootout in the streets of The Dalles was actually a picture of a 1929 re-enactment, part of the Fort Dalles Frolics of that year. It was donated to Columbia Gorge Discovery Center in a deteriorating photo album and scanned by Susan Buce.

The print was labeled “The hold up of the Union Pacific Train in the Old Fort Dalles Frolic Parade. Sept. 5, 1929.” The U.P. engine is going down second street on wheels, draped in American flags for some reason. Elite Studio took the photo.
