Fifth-graders show no mercy on way to title

Fifth-grade players representing the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy went 4-0 and outscored opponents by a 192-43 margin this past Sunday in a hoops tournament at The Dalles Middle School. The players are, pictured from left to right, starting on top, Nolan Donivan, Andre Niko, Henry Begay and Olsen Meanus. On the bottom are, from left, J.J. Johnston, Tristan KuKu, Cooper Cummings, Calvin Floyd and Sam Shaver. Not pictured is head coach Greg Cummings. In the title game against Hood River Valley, Niko, Cummings and Begay combined for 33 points in a 51-8 win.

When a team outscores opponents by a 192-43 margin, chances are good that tournament success will follow.

That is exactly what the Columbia Gorge Basketball Academy fifth-graders put forth in scoring four consecutive wins and a tournament title at the inaugural Gorge Hoops Invitational ending Sunday at The Dalles Middle School.
