Fastpitch Northwest will hold a pair of Prospect Evaluation Clinics for area high school softball players in June. The PECs are for players who will graduate from high school in 2017 through 2021. The first PEC will be held at Walla Walla Community College in Walla Walla, Wash. The second tryout date will be scheduled to run on Wednesday, June 22 at Delta Park in Portland. The PECs are designed to evaluate and assist players in their desire to “play at the next level.” Performance at the June PECs determines if a player will be invited to Fastpitch Northwest’s College Exposure Championship tournament in July (19-20-21) in Centralia, Wash. More than 40 college coaches will be attending this year’s tournament. Physical tests for PEC participants includes SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness) and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Comparatives, which includes arm speed, bat speed and foot speed. Players are also evaluated on their hitting, fielding and base running. The results and player information are included in their National Profile, which is uploaded on the Fastpitch NW website (www.fastpitchnw.com). Fastpitch Northwest has been a stepping stone for many area players who have gone onto to play college softball. Conducting the the camp, which will last approximately six hours, will be Fastpitch Northwest Director Ken Olson and assistant Tom Mauldin. The cost of the PEC is $125.
