The mystery of the missing Travis Church continues to grow.
The Dalles City Police reserve officer had plenty of reasons to stay. He was scheduled this week for testing to become a full-fledged city law officer, his longtime dream.
Instead, he left his home in The Dalles sometime after the evening of March 14 and drove his cobalt blue Jeep Rubicon to Boise, where an ATM machine videotaped him accessing his bank account, according to information from city police.
Church, 23, appeared to be alone and his vehicle, which is also being sought, was visible in the video.
“We consider this a positive development that Church is apparently alive and in good health, but he is still considered a missing person,” the report said. “His current whereabouts or apparent destination is unknown.”
Church has also been a part-time dispatcher for about 1½ years, Sheriff Rick Eiesland told the Wasco County Board of Commissioners today.
“Friday night he just vanished,” Eiesland siad. “He left the area and nobody’s seen him.”
Church apparently took some of his guns, withdrew money in The Dalles and left, Eiesland said.
Law officers scoured county back roads over the weekend, fearing Church had suffered a crash in a remote location.
The Dalles Police Chief Jay Waterbury said police had given the missing person teletype to the state’s Fusion Center for nationwide distribution.
Church’s parents did not return phone calls.
