Iron Works as economic indicator

As a fabricator and repair shop for major industries within a 100-mile radius, by all accounts business is strong in the Mid-Columbia, said owner Jon Keyser.

“Typically, we have a two to three- month slowdown during this time of year.” But for the second year, there is no back off.  Keyser recently brought on another employee, Jason Smith, to handle the load.   

New housing construction, wind turbines, manufacturers, repairs and residential upgrades, have steel bending and metal melting.

Cash from large capital improvements in the area are trickling into smaller businesses and in turn locals are flush for doing, for example, a custom welded gate.  

 “When the economy is good, it reflects right down to residential projects,” he said.
