Hood River Valley High School wrestlers went home with some hardware from the Oregon Freestyle and Greco Wrestling state championships, held late last month in Cottage Grove. In the Junior Greco division (all high school grades), Ryan Zeller came home with a title in the 113-pound weight class for the boys, and Elena Kroll took first for the girls at 132 pounds and Grace Miller was right behind with a silver finish at 144. Other participants included Justin Wilson (heavyweight, third), Jason Shaner (132, third), Jesse Flores (113, fourth), Chad Muenzer (120, fifth), and Adrian Ramirez (heavyweight, sixth). In Junior Freestyle, Shaner and Kroll took first, followed by Zeller (second) and Flores (sixth). In Cadet Greco (freshmen and sophomores only), Zeller took second and Javier Galvez took sixth (152). In Cadet Freestyle, Muenzer and Zeller placed third in their respective weight classes.
Free football camp May 13

TrackTown Youth League meet May 13
Hood River will host one of 14 statewide meets for the 2017 TrackTown Youth League season May 13 at HRVHS. The competition is a series of free all-comer meets open to all boys and girls ages 7-14. No experience is necessary to compete in any of the five events, 100-meter dash, 400, 1500, long jump, and turbo javelin. Top finishers will advance to the championship at the University of Oregon June 10 during the NCAA championships. The May 13 meet starts at 10 a.m., check-in is from 9-9:45, and day-of registration is from 9-9:30. To register, go to tracktownyouthleague.com.
