THE DALLES — The Riverhawks won four events at the 22-team Buck Track Classic on a sunny day in Pendleton April 3.
The Dalles High School had individual event wins from Tyson Long in the boys 1,500, Derek Goulart in the boys high jump, Willow Ziegenhagen in the girls javelin, and the 4x400 girls relay. In the latter race, Ziegenhagen, Ebany Mondragon, Flamingo Duyck, and Laura Black won in 4 minutes, 23.60 seconds, the No. 7-ranked time in OSAA Class 4A this season.
Coach Jill Bell’s girls team finished third in the meet with 84 points, behind La Grande (93) and host Pendleton (86).
Ziegenhagen’s personal record javelin throw of 129 feet, 2 inches is No. 2 in 4A thus far. The talented sophomore also placed second in the high jump at 5 feet (No. 4 4A). She joined Bryce Newby, Laura Black, and Gabriela Dominguez Bahena to finish third in the 4x100 relay 52.25 (No. 8 4A).
Black cleared a personal best 8-6 (tie No. 3 4A) to finish third in the pole vault, Newby was third in the javelin in a personal best 102-10, Evelyn Rogers was third in the shot put (PR 31-1), and Duyck was second in the 300 hurdles in a PR 50.48 (No. 7 4A).
The Dalles boys were fifth in the team standings with 54 points. Long led the way with a win in the 1,500 meters in a personal best (4:11.34) and later finished second in the 800 (season best 2:03.51). He also joined Noah Preston, Goulart, and Patrick Rankin to finish second in the 4x400 in 3:33.96 (No. 5 4A).
Preston finished second in the 400 in a season best 51.58, the No. 5 time in 4A. Rankin was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 44.14 (No. 5 4A). Goulart won the high jump at 5-10.
