THE DALLES — The Dalles High School’s (TDHS)girls basketball team lost to Molalla, 64-45, on Feb. 3 at Molalla, and beat Pendleton 49-41, on Feb. 4 at home in Kurtz Gymnasium.
The Riverhawks (7-11, 1-2) stuck with the Indians (10-7, 4-0) on the road until late in the fourth quarter, when Molalla pulled away using the three-ball. Senior Hailey Johnston led the way for the Riverhawks with 15 points, shooting 6-for-6 from inside the three-point line. Johnston grabbed five rebounds, as well.
Freshman Anuhea Peters was all over the floor defensively, adding six points, three assists, four steals and three blocks. Junior Evelyn Rogers also had a notable game in the paint with seven points and four boards.
The next day, in a non-league game against the Buckaroos (9-10), the Riverhawks responded with a steady effort for all four quarters. The Dalles got off to a 23-16 halftime lead and led 34-29 at the end of the third quarter. Rogers led the charge on both ends, finishing with 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Rogers was also 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Bryce Newby led The Dalles in scoring with 12 points and added six rebounds. Peters had five rebounds and four assists, while Johnston contributed six rebounds and four assists.
