The Go Granny Go foursome sewed up the second half with one week to go in the Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies league at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. Bowling for the winners are Esther Yarnell, Kim McCartney, Quinton Cox and the indomitable Lynn Spellman.
This super fun league does not have a season ending roll off to determine its overall champion, but instead celebrates its first and second half winners as co-champions. More “R” Better (Garna Arnell, Sue Spellman, Doug Arnell and John Lyon) won the first half.
Lynn Spellman’s smooth slants swept the individual league highs for the season with a classy 211 average, a lofty scratch 280 game and a cool 729 series.
Many thanks to all of you young at heart keglers who bowled this popular league. There’s never a dull moment in this one, so get your spot reserved now for next season.
The Monday night Industrial league moves into unique bracket matches for the next three weeks to decide its champion.
Bracket seeding is done by performance, round winners and most points for the season vs. non-winners with lesser points. Kind of like who’s hot vs. who’s not!
However, this format gives every team a chance to win, unlike most leagues, where you usually have to win a round to reach for the stars. Everybody is still in it which makes for increased late season excitement and underdogs can easily prevail.
Here are this week’s seeded matches: No. 1 Mid-Columbia Diesel vs. No. 8 Split Shots; No. 2 Randy’s Painting vs. No. 7 OL’ 7-10; No. 3 Orchard Lanes vs. No. 6 Tinman Heating; and No. 4 Hood River Supply vs. No. 5 Columbia Hills RV.
Several stars emerged out of last week’s league action. Renowned keglerette Nancy Asai had a field day in the Tuesday morning ladies Workshirkers league where she bowled lights out, notching a sparkling scratch 267 game and 679 series which was 118 pins over her average. In a season filled with big numbers, these are fitting finales for the local all-star legend. Ms. Asai has had one heck of a great year!
Ed Busick is ready to bowl now. Ed had a break out performance in the Colts & Fillies, where he pummeled the pins to the tune of a big scratch 243 game and 633 series which was 111 pins over his average. Both happen to be seasonal bests for the prolific right hander who loves the game and competes in three leagues.
Hats off to the young generation of bowlers led by Shaiyan Brittle, who smashed the sticks in the Industrial with a heady 256 game. Young Shaiyan topped her average by 107 pins for the outing. And, finally, Mark Chabotte made a special delivery at the lanes last week, pounding the pocket through rain, sleet and snow like he always does to notch the high scratch series of the week with a nice 716. Great bowling everybody!
