THE DALLES — The Dalles High had a chance to reach the Class 4A football playoffs it they could win their final Special District 2 contest Oct. 25 against Molalla, but the Riverhawks couldn’t hold an early lead and lost, 25-14. The Riverhawks had a good start, leading 7-0 in the first quarter when senior running back Julian Morehouse scored on a 47-yard touchdown run. Junior placekicker London Leitz booted the point after touchdown.
The Riverhawks, guided by first-year Coach Nate Timmons, struggled for the remainder of the contest, falling behind 25-7 after three quarters.
“We came out playing pretty well early in the game, but then we made some mistakes, and they [Indians] were able to take advantage of the mistakes and so we just came up short and it was definitely disappointing,” said Timmons. “I’m proud of our guys though. They fought hard, and after a week of practice, we felt like we were well prepared but sometimes things just don’t work out well enough.”
Senior quarterback Leighton Voodre completed two passes, one for a touchdown. Junior linebacker Josh Brackenbury led the Riverhawks defensively with a team-high six tackles. The Riverhawks will conclude the season with a 7 p.m. Nov. 1 non-league senior night home game against the Ontario High Tigers (2-6) on Sid White Field.
