Randy’s Painting won the Monday night Industrial League at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes last week. They absolutely crushed Columbia Hills RV in the championship match 28 points to 2. Randy Nieto was the driving force in the contest as he rolled a solid scratch 648 series that was capped by nifty 242 and 224 games. Randy was 90 pins over his average. That’s some pretty darn good clutch bowling by Randy, who doubles as the sponsor of his team.
His teammate, the omnipresent Len Hickman, was also in fine form, chipping in a nice scratch 615 set that was highlighted by fine 224 and 222 games. Justin Gatewood, Jesse Flores and Wally Jaksha round out this fine team of winners. They wouldn’t have gotten to the top without nice contributions from everyone on the team during the season. Team bowling is everything. Congratulations to the champions of the Industrial League!
The Tuesday morning ladies Workshirkers League also finished their season last week. The Nobi’s dynasty team returned in force to win the league again as they have so many times in the past. This season, Nobi’s dominated by winning both the first and second rounds and as a result, there is no playoff for the title in this league. Nobi’s takes the title outright. That’s a true measure of how good this quartet is! Bowling for Nobi’s were local legends in Hood River’s women’s bowling: Shirley Thornhill, Nina Kruckenberg, Charlotte Severns and Nancy Asai. Congratulations to the champions of the Workshirkers League!
The Wednesday afternoon senior Colts & Fillies finished up too. This league doesn’t have an overall champion, instead it honors the winners of the first and second half. The second half winners were the Mighty Ducks: Adolph Bonfiglio, Delores Slavin, Len Hickman and Tom Culp. The winners of the first half were the Hits and Misses: Karen Driver, Kevin Rogers, Adria Erwin and Kim McCartney.
This has been a splendid season filled with amazing highlights and we want to thank everyone who bowled in these three fantastic leagues. We miss you already and can’t wait to see you all next season. Have a wonderful summer but don’t forget to drop in and see us. Come on in and bowl a few games to keep sharp for next season.
Team of the week
Milo Prideaux: +105 (753)
Pat Olson: +91 (748)
Ken Ingram: +90 (690)
Randy Nieto: +90 (744)
Roger Montavon: +85 (742)
3,677 total pins (handicap)
Milo Prideaux led the parade of big shooters who made the team of the week. Milo fired scratch 223 and 203 games in the Industrial, finishing his set 105 pins over his average. This is his second appearance on the big five. Next, Pat Olson was simply spectacular in the tough Wednesday night Fraternal League where he tossed his 17th career perfect 300 game. Onlookers report that every one of his twelve strikes in a row were perfect pocket hits. What an incredible number, 17 perfectos, can you believe anybody can be that good at this game? Pat went on to notch a spiffy scratch 739 series that was 91 pins over his average, making the classy crew for the second time this season. Ken Ingram gets the third spot based on his solid outing in the Thursday afternoon Lads & Lassies League. Ken logged a fine scratch 211 game and finished his series 90 pins over his average. This is Ken’s first-ever appearance on the team of the week. Randy Nieto grabs the fourth slot based on his fine effort in the Industrial. This is his fourth appearance on the fab five. Getting the anchor on the vaunted five is Roger Montavon who had a great showing in the Fraternal where he notched a near perfect 299 game. “Sarge” had a nervy 10th frame, getting the first two strikes on high hits but his 12th and final ball went wide, leaving the two pin. Perhaps he over adjusted on that last toss because of the previous high hits. Nevertheless, Roger finished up 85 pins over his average with a nifty scratch 715 series. This is Roger’s fifth appearance on the team of the week this season tying him for the most in town this season. Great bowling everybody!
