The 2015-16 fall bowling leagues began last week at Hood River’s own Orchard Lanes. There is still plenty of time to join up to get in on all the action. Spots are available in all leagues, so come on up to the Heights and try your hand at a real big-time game.
This isn’t couch potato stuff where you wave a wand at the TV screen — this is the real thing. Have you got the stuff to fire that speedy sphere 60 feet down the lane to take out 10 3-pound, 6-ounce pins? There’s nothing quite like blasting those sticks to smithereens! Strikes are what it’s all about, but converting those tricky spares is fun too, especially the gaping splits. You get to socialize, meet new people and make friends — that’s the side benefit, plus, there is a little competition too. That gets the juices flowing!
Come on up to the lanes at 1141 Tucker Road or call 541-386-1326 for more info. Orchard Lanes has leagues Monday through Thursday for men, women, mixed and seniors — just about anything you could want. And remember, contrary to urban legend, you do not have to be a good bowler to get in on league action. Leagues are for everybody.
Three stars emerged from last week’s league action. Topping the list is Sgt. Roger Montavon who fired a whopping scratch 725 series in the high-powered Wednesday night Fraternal League. Roger is not only a veteran of tenpin action, he’s had several tours in Iraq and for that we thank him for his service. As far as his bowling game goes, Roger comes from the smooth school: he lets his ball do the work but even with his effortless style on the lanes, he rolls a mighty powerful hook. How does he do that? He hasn’t bowled since last May, yet he still posted this big score on his first night of league action. How did he do that? That’s some impressive stuff; it tells you that Roger is a talented bowler — you don’t get lucky and bowl a big 725 set, it takes skill to go that high. Roger’s fine series was highlighted by big-time games of a near-perfect 278 and a 245. Folks, that’s a lot of strikes!
Our second star is Frani Thompson. Frani is also a tenpin veteran at Orchard Lanes. In the Wednesday afternoon Senior Colts and Fillies League, Frani cuffed the sticks to the tune of a mighty fine scratch 201 game and 527 series. That effort was 113 pins over her average — the most by anyone in league action last week.
And, our third star is The Rental Center’s main man, Woody Eskildsen, who pummeled the pins in the Fraternal, finishing the night with a nice scratch 233 game and 611 series which was 107 pins over his average. That was the most over average by a man in league last week. Great bowling everybody!
Wednesday afternoon Senior Colts & Fillies: Len Hickman, 236 game & 546 series. Frani Thompson, 201 game & 527 series. Jim Ebersole, 213 game. Ron Baumsteiger, 210 game. Quinton Cox, 209 game.
Wednesday night Fraternal League: Roger Montavon, 278, 245 games & 725 series. Bernie Keys , 216 game & 533 series. Ken Kramer, 258 game. Patrick Olson, 255 game. Jeremy Bloom, 255 game. Jeff Miller, 237 game.
