HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley (HRV) opens its Class 5A Northwest Oregon Conference boys soccer season Sept. 25 with a home match against visiting Putnam.
Hood River finished its non-league matches Sept. 18 with a 3-1 win over 6A Glencoe of Hillsboro. Coach Alvaro Lara’s Eagles were 2-4-1 in pre-league matches, all against 6A opponents.
The win over Glencoe snapped a four-match winless streak, which included a 0-0 tie on Sept. 4 against Sandy. The Crimson Tide scored less than two minutes into the match as HRV looked unsettled momentarily on defense. Hood River got the equalizer a little more than a minute later, taking advantage of a poor Glencoe pass at midfield. On the ensuing transition play, Rohan Gutierrez converted a nifty feed from the left wing from Ernesto Solano. Gutierrez, who later scored in the final minute of the match, controlled the Solano pass and rolled a low shot past the Glencoe keeper.
Solomon Parson scored the eventual game winner a little more than 10 minutes before halftime. Parson did some individual dribbling in midfield then sent the ball wide to the right wing to Anthony Hernandez. The sophomore passed back to Parson, who switched directions toward the middle of the field before booming a left-foot shot just under the crossbar from 22 yard out.
