THE GORGE — The Dalles and Columbia high school cross country teams competed Sept. 20 at the Three Course Challenge meet at Camp Rilea near Seaside on the Oregon coast.
The meet allows runners to enter one of three races, ranking in order of difficulty.
The Dalles boys finished fourth in the Difficult Course 5,000-meter race with 89 points. The Riverhawk team scorers included: Tyson Long, ninth, 18 minutes, 24 seconds; Noah Preston, 16th, 19:12; Zeb Stelzer, 18th, 19:17; Aiden Erickson, 61st, 20:55; and Phoenix Nanie, 110th, 22:17.
Columbia did not have five runners (team score) in the Difficult Course boys race, but were led by Luther Thomas’ 31st place finish (19:58). Teammate Carter Smith was 73rd and Ethan Hayes was 111th.
Bruin junior Lilah Zimmerman was fifth overall in the girls Difficult Course race in 22 minutes, 40 seconds and teammate Reyna Pinchot was 37th (25:27). The Dalles had Abigail Pope (22nd, 24:43) and Kestley Hodges (38th, 25:28) in that same race. Top local finishers in the Moderate Course 5,000-meter girls race were Kathryn O’Connor of Columbia in fifth (21:32), and Alessandra Meza of The Dalles in 22nd (23:37). The Dalles fielded a scoring team in the race, where the Riverhawks finished second. Columbia was seventh.
Both schools had complete teams in the Moderate Course 5,000-meter boys race, with The Dalles finishing fifth and Columbia sixth. The Dalles was led by Luke Sorenson in 16th place and Lazarus Taylor in 17th. Sophomore Colby Clark led Columbia with his 29th place finish.
