Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
John “Johnny” Shuler passed away peacefully at home in Mosier, Oregon, on Sept. 10, 2025. He was 71 years old.
Johnny was born on Dec. 27, 1953, in Indio, California, to Joseph Andrew and Elsie Vernie (Floyd) Shuler. He moved with his family to Oregon during childhood and attended school in Pine Grove (Hood River), Oregon, and later in Longview, Washington.
Johnny worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a welder and district truck driver. In later years he became a local and long haul semi truck driver. John was known for his hardworking spirit and hands-on skills, Johnny could often be found wrenching on a project or hunting down the next one to buy, fix, and sell.
He loved his family, his friends, his animals, and the outdoors — especially camping. His big heart and generous nature were known to many, and his door was always open.
Johnny is survived by his three sons, Jeremy, Justin and Joseph; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his siblings Carolyn, Mary, Dorthy, Barbara, James, and Brenda; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved three German Shepherds. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Murphey.
Johnny’s family suggests memorial donations be made to an animal shelter of your choice, in honor of Johnny’s deep love for animals.
A celebration of Johnny’s life was held on, Sept. 20. A graveside urn committal is planned for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery of Hood River.
