Out of the litany of lopsided matchups the HRV girls lacrosse team has had this season, nothing topped Tuesday’s.
The surging Eagles (8-4) hosted the struggling Cleveland Warriors (1-10) at Henderson Community Stadium, where they dispatched their league opponent 15-1 in a game that was practically over before it began. HRV overpowered Cleveland going up 10-0 within the first 16 minutes of the game.
If nothing else, it gave the opportunity for some younger JV players to log some varsity minutes.
“I knew it would be the perfect game to see how they’d do, and they did great,” said HRV Head Coach Andrew McElderry.
Twelve players on the HRV roster had at least a goal or an assist in Tuesday’s game, including Katie Koenig (goal, three assists), Eleanor Barton (two goals), Kat McElderry (two goals), Emma Norris (goal, assist), Josie Petersen (goal, assist), Lauren Trumbull (two goals), Abby Bartles (goal), Payton Bunch (goal), Frances Dickinson (goal), Blair Holman (goal, team-high three draw controls won), Brooklyn Holman (goal), and Terra Mikkelsen (goal).
Ella Rand had little work to do in the cage, stopping four of Cleveland’s five shots (80 percent).
HRV 16, Summit 2
The Eagles apparently weren’t too taxed by their Tuesday game, as they turned around on Wednesday and had a similar outing against Summit (9-4) defeating the Storm 16-2 in a nonleague game also played at Henderson Community Stadium.
Scoring was not as evenly distributed, as Koenig led the team with six goals and an assist, along with a team-high four ground balls and two draw controls won. Norris was next in points with three goals and two assists, followed by McElderry (four goals), Mikkelsen (three assists), Alex Willis (goal, assist), Barton (goal), Rebecca Kiyokawa (goal), and Lauren Orr (assist). Kiyokawa also led the team in caused turnovers (two), along with Daisy Dolan.
Rand saw much more action in her 50 minutes in the crease and had an even better performance, turning away nine of Summit’s 11 shot attempts (82 percent).
HRV continued their home stint Friday with a nonleague competition against Tualatin (13-1) at Westside Elementary (results unavailable at press time).
