HOOD RIVER — Water sports fanatics from across the country flocked to the Hood River event site on July 8-11 for North America’s largest amateur kiteboarding race, Kiteboard4Cancer. In it’s 16th year, the event brought in nearly $250,000 in donations, sponsorships and fundraising. All proceeds will go to Project Koru and fund adventure camps for their young adult cancer survivors. Chair on the board of directors Steve Fisher said he was skeptical at first when participation was low just a week and a half before the event.

The roller derby match between the Gorge Roller Girls and the Storm City Roller Girls at the Fort Dalles Readiness Center last Saturday drew fans from around the Gorge. The Gorge Roller Girls are in their second season of play with the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), an international organization with over 400 active leagues.

As the years fly by, the number of participants taking part in the Jumpstart Elementary School Track and Field Meet has grown considerably, especially from last year’s 65 to nearly 80 this past Wednesday at Sid White Field in The Dalles.
