Jumpstart track meet brings local kids together

Local youths from across the Greater Columbia River Gorge were on hand for the 17th annual Jumpstart track and field meet this past Wednesday at Sid White Field at Wahtonka High School. All told, there was nearly 80 male and female athletes who participated in several sprint and mid-distance running events and some jumps and also had a chance to learn about other events in this three-hour showcase.

As the years fly by, the number of participants taking part in the Jumpstart Elementary School Track and Field Meet has grown considerably, especially from last year’s 65 to nearly 80 this past Wednesday at Sid White Field in The Dalles.

Boys and girls from kindergarten-through-fifth grade participated in the 100-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter runs, along with field events, such as the long jump.
