The Dalles High Riverhawks boys golf team had a phenomenal start to the season with a second-place finish in their season opener in Hood River on March 14, followed by a win at home March 18.

An improving The Dalles girls soccer team seeks its first win in a nonleague contest at home Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against the Hillsboro Spartans (0-0-1).

The Riverhawks (0-1-1) had a good start in their opening game of the season, a 1-1 tie against the Class 3A Riverside Pirates (1-1-1) Aug. 30 at the Wahtonka soccer field. The Dalles, guided by Coach Colby Tonn, was unable to keep the momentum from the opener and lost 6-0 to Scappoose (2-0-1) Sept. 7 at Otto Petersen Elementary School in Scappoose.

Stevenson blocked a fourth-quarter field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown Friday, dashing visiting Columbia High’s hopes of a Gorge Bowl win. Perhaps, not surprisingly, the ensuing conversion attempt failed, and the Bulldogs won, 6-0.
