HOOD RIVER — At the height of garden season —when the Pacific Northwest is lush with color, texture, and late summer light — “In a Garden” art exhibition at 301 Gallery in downtown Hood River, invites visitors into an immersive celebration of nature’s peaceful complexity and exuberant growth.
With bright symmetrical green leaves sprouting out of the Tree of Heaven’s crown, the plant almost earns the namesake based on looks alone. Corrie Podolak, conservation outreach coordinator at Underwood Conservation District (UCD), will tell you otherwise.
MILL A — On May 16-17, Friends of the Mill A Little Free Library will be holding their annual plant sale at the Gallery at 3632 Cook-Underwood Road. Follow the bright yellow signs.

Years later, gardening with my own toddler has become one of my favorite parts of parenting. She will refuse a tomato at the dinner table but happily take bites straight from the garden. There’s something about being outside, hands in the soil, that changes the experience entirely.
