The No. 13-ranked Dufur High Rangers won for second time out of their past three Class 1A Special District 2 games, 60-32, over the struggling Pilot Rock High Rockets (0-3 SD2, 0-6 overall) in an Oct. 7 homecoming game at Dufur High School.
All is alive and well in Ranger Nation after Dufur High got its first win in Class 1A Special District 2 eight-man football, 44-28, win over the host Sherman County/Condon High Huskies Sept. 22 in Moro.
The Dufur High Rangers had a rough start to their Class 1A football season opener as they lost 66-6 to the St. Paul High Buckaroos Sept. 1 in the 20th Annual Eight-Man Classic at Dufur High School.
The Dufur High Rangers have reached the OSAA Class 1A 8-man football state playoffs 12 consecutive years and have 11 players returning from their 2021 team to lead another postseason run.
The Special District 7 champion Dufur/South Wasco baseball team is certainly going to look much different next year, and not just because an talented Ranger squad lost six graduated seniors.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, there weren’t any OSAA-sponsored football playoffs following the six-week spring season in April — and no official state champion. However, if there were playoffs, the unbeaten Dufur High Rangers would’ve been favored to win their 11th OSAA Class 1A eight-man football championship. That said, few would argue that it’s appropriate to refer to the Rangers as the defending champs.
The Dufur Rangers had their quest for five straight state championships come to an end last week in Crane, but the team celebrated a list of six players who were named to the 1A Special District 3 all-league list.
Overall, there were six different players picking up honors, led by Trey Darden, Cooper Bales, Kaleb Pence, Josiah Dave, Caleb Olson, Jacob Jones and Isaac Anthony.
