The Class 1A No. 5-ranked South Wasco County High Redsides girls basketball team improved its record to 8-2 with a 48-44 nonleague win over the North Lake High Cowgirls (5-3) Dec. 28 at North Lake High School in Silver Lake.
The defending Class 1A Big Sky League champion South Wasco County High Redsides boys basketball team improved its record to 8-1 with an 86-62 non-league win over the North Lake High Cowboys (5-4) Dec. 28 at North Lake High School.
The three area small school baseball teams begin their OSAA Class 2A/1A Special District 7 regular season schedules following a week off for spring break.
The 2A Heppner Mustangs outscored Dufur 38-18 through three quarters, but the Lady Rangers rallied for a 17-8 fourth-quarter run to cut the deficit late in their 46-35 loss Saturday in Dufur. Dufur had a seven-point improvement from the first time these two teams played on Dec. 6, a 47-29 Heppner win.
Russell Peters drove in Isaac Anthony with a two-out, RBI double, Peters later scored on a passed ball, and Anthony retired the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Dufur Rangers a 6-5 comeback win over Sherman Tuesday in Moro.
Over a span of four days, the Sherman volleyball team lost 3-1 to Cove, but then came back for two straight wins over Trinity Lutheran in three non-league matches. After their loss to Cove, the Huskies swept the Trinity Lutheran Saints 25-15, 25-20 and 25-23 on Friday, Aug. 24 in Moro to give first-year head coach Karissa Gorham.
MADRAS – Although blessed with a solid core of returners, there were some questions as to whether or not the Sherman boys’ basketball team had the depth and firepower to make up for the loss of four graduated seniors.
