Letter to the editor: Waste of time

I just have one question, why is the city council wasting its time? Doesn’t it have more important, and useful, things to look into?

Weren’t they going to work on budgets, taxes, and road maintenance?

Things they claimed they could actually do something about utilizing their accumulated knowledge and experience?

What are the qualifications the city council is claiming to have that makes them capable of making decisions about oil, coal, or any other rail traffic?

As for the hype about the fire department not being able to handle an oil spill, of course they cannot. Emergency services are based on an expected average occurrence.

Anything above that they try to hold the situation until help arrives. No one could afford emergency services that could single handedly fight all potential fires, such as the grass and field fires we have had in the last few years.

If you apply the view that the fire department cannot handle it to that situation, we would be tearing up the grass and leaving barren, muddy fields. After all, if the fire department cannot handle it, we should not allow it.

The city council needs to concentrate on what it was elected to do, not waste its time on pointless resolutions.
