The Kaser family and those involved in the farming operation would like to extend our gratitude toward all the agencies and individuals who responded on Thursday, June 30, to the Fifteen Mile Fire east of The Dalles.
The fire that started on I-84 Thursday afternoon moved very rapidly, creating an extremely difficult situation for everyone involved.
Several homes and outbuildings were threatened, along with crops and cattle. Because of the work of our farming neighbors and friends from Wasco and Sherman counties and firefighters from a multitude of agencies, no one was hurt, all of the structures were saved, and as far as we know, no cattle were lost.
Thanks also to the Wasco County sheriff’s deputies who went door to door, quickly evacuating the residents of Fifteen Mile and Moody Roads.
We are so fortunate that the decision was made to post firefighting planes at Dallesport this fire season.
The planes dropping fire retardant during the daylight hours on Thursday and Friday aided greatly in finally stopping the blaze.
A wildfire is a frightening event, and without the extraordinary efforts of everyone who helped out, the outcome would have been much worse.
It is impossible to relay how grateful we all are to everyone who came to our aid — please accept our deepest thanks.
