To the editor:
Despite the snow and ice, Festival of Trees went off without a hitch Dec. 6 at The Dalles Civic Auditorium. Volunteers, staff and board members of the Civic were attentive and helpful throughout the entire event.
Our presenting sponsor, Columbia State Bank, was so gracious with their donation, helping contribute to the event total, $26,000, which will be split between the Breast Health for Strong Families Program and Celilo Cancer Center Fund.
Our Community Day sponsor, Fred Meyer, sent out employees to help make the day run smoothly. They provided candy canes for the kids, helped decorate the building, donated a tree for the auction and were friendly and welcoming to our guests.
Wasco County Renegades 4-H Club did a great job with the coat check.
The Boy Scouts came to sell wreaths to benefit their cause.
SMART hosted a fundraiser for their program, taking photos of children while they visited with Santa. Sluggers Baseball sold hot chocolate including marshmallows & peppermints; what a treat!
We are so grateful to the businesses and organizations who partnered with us to make for such a fantastic event.
We are in awe of the 48 volunteers who put in a total of 191 hours and helped us kick off the holiday season at the 2013 Festival of Trees.
