Baseball team to be local players. With plans already on foot for the formation of a real baseball team here this season, Allan Hart, the new business manager, states that this season the practice of shipping player will be discontinued and the teams which go on the diamond will be made up of Hood River men.

Fred Floth, 22, Willows, Cal., outlaw, wanted in that city on charges of forgery, mail robbery and violation of the Mann act, was at liberty in The Dalles yesterday for nearly 10 hours and was caught in a local clothing store after police and county officers had combed the city and railroad yards in a search for him.

Local saw mills to start work. Big Mill at Glenwood to work double shifts. The big plant of the Milton Box & Lumber Co. at Glenwood expects to resume operations March 1st. During the winter expensive improvements were made so that the plant could be operated day and night. Electronic lights have been installed through the big yard.

Nylon seekers crowd store to capacity. Around two hundred — or to be exact, 222 — residents of Hood River area, last Saturday were able to purchase one pair of nylon stockings on Oak street, and were very happy.
But more than 300 others, who had helped to crowd the store to capacity for nearly two hours, were unable to buy nylons, for the simple reason that the supply was exhausted. And they were disappointed.

Phillip Smith, Hood River eighth grader, hit 95 of 100 free throws to earn a share of the Oregon Elks Free Throw championship during a shoot-off Saturday at Corvallis.
Smith and co-champion Daryl McMeen of Bend both will receive an all-expenses trip on the Oregon state basketball charter to Washington and Washington State later this month.
The two boys were tied at 70 of 75 free throws at the end of regular competition, and both hit an unprecedented 25 of 25 in the shoot-off.

By unanimous action, the commission of Port of The Dalles took the first major step into the deep water of a world port by authorizing dredging of the harbor for ocean-going ships and the first stage of dock improvements.
A holdup man who told his victim, “I’ve killed other people and I’ll kill you if you don’t do what I tell you,” obtained about $108 late Wednesday at the Oregon Motor Motel, 206 W. Second Street.

Three vehicle accident on Heights Road. A 3 vehicle accident occurred Thursday at 2:10 4.4 miles west of Underwood on the Underwood Heights Rd. Theodore A. Maddux, 32, of Stevenson was west bound on the Heights Rd. driving a Chevrolet pickup. Carole L. Ziegler, 26, of Underwood was pushing her husband Clark who was trying to start a ‘19 Ford tractor. Mr. Ziegler not being able to start the tractor, stopped with his wife behind him.
