THE GORGE — Come learn and be inspired with Underwood Conservation District (UCD), which continues the 6th annual Winter Workshop Series in January and February in White Salmon. The December in-person only winter workshop on Biochar held in Husum was a success and a wonderful gathering of community.
On Jan. 16, 6 p.m. at the White Salmon Valley Library, Matthew Shephard from the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation discusses on “More than Flowers: What your Landscape Needs to Support Pollinators.” Flowers are wonderful. But they are just a starting point for creating a place — whether that is your backyard, park, smallholding, community garden, business landscaping — that can support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. You need to provide for their entire life cycle, and that means thinking about more than flowers. Learn practical ways in which we can bring diversity into our landscapes and make our neighborhoods into pollinator havens. Details at www.ucdwa.org.
The final winter workshop will be held on Feb. 19, featuring special guest, James Cassidy, Instructor of Soil Science at Oregon State University at the Mountain View Grange in White Salmon. Details register at www.ucdwa.org/winter-workshop-series.
