White Salmon Valley School District: Safety prioritized in new school design

In his report — which took place a week after a school shooting at a Bend elementary school that killed three students and a teacher — Polkinghorn said window glazing, door locks and hardware, window coverings, and secure vestibules to manage building entry are part of ongoing discussions with architects.

“Those decisions are being considered as the design develops, alongside how students and staff will use the spaces each day,” he said.

Factors such as electrical and network systems inside the schools are also in the planning stages, as is the stadium lighting project.

Designs are not yet ready for public viewing, but are expected over the next few months.
