Cindy Ortiz, one of six vision screeners who travel throughout the state of Oregon annually from the Elks Preschool Vision Screening Program, uses the PlusOptix vision screener to detect vision disorders in local preschoolers.

HOOD RIVER — The Elks Preschool Vision Screening Program provided vision screenings to Hood River students at Mid-Columbia Children’s Council (MCCC) preschools, marking the 75th anniversary of The Oregon State Elks Association supporting pediatric eye care in the state.

Vision screenings are important in identifying students whose education could be affected due to poor vision. Children who do not pass the vision screening are referred to a local eye care provider for a complete dilated eye exam. If a family is unable to pay for the child’s exam or glasses, the Oregon Elks Association generously covers the cost of these services.
