Greater Oregon Behavioral Health, Inc. (GOBHI) and the Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative host a free training by national speaker Dr. Patrick Arbore, EdD, on July 26.
GOBHI will be hosting this training with Arbore in The Dalles at the GOBHI Central Office in the training room, located at 401 E. Third St.
Arbore is the director and founder of the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention and Grief Related Services, a program that is part of the Institute on Aging in San Francisco.
Arbore focuses on helping behavioral health practitioners, family members, and older adults find hope, support, and innovative strategies to successfully manage the challenges associated with aging. He has participated in numerous webinars, radio shows, and television programs focused on aging issues.
The first session is entitled “Depression and Suicide Prevention in Older Adults.”
This is a three-hour training in which the participants will, among other things, gain an understanding of the problems of older adult suicide, learn to recognize risk factors of the older adult population, learn skills to work with at risk individuals, recognize signs of fatigue and burn-out when working with older adults who are depressed and suicidal, and identify resources, including the 24-hour Friendship Line.
The second session is entitled “The 3 Ds: Depression, Delirium and Dementia.”
Participants will learn how to differentiate among dementia, delirium and depression, recognize the symptoms of delirium, understand the important role of an assessment when it comes to depression, and understand the major global health issue of dementia on an individual and the nation in the coming decades.
