Notable incidents
Troopers responded to reports of a person sitting on a guardrail near milepost 81, I-84 westbound and found them walking eastbound at milepost 79. The person, walking to Eugene, was arrested for a warrant.
Two non-injury crashes. Aug. 29, the brakes overheated on a semi-truck carrying heavy equipment on Scott Canyon Road. The driver went through an intersection and into the eastbound lanes of I-84, before stopping on a shoulder. Aug. 30, two pickups collided after one made a dangerous left turn onto US-197.
A speeding driver was arrested for driving suspended and lack of a front license plate Aug. 29.
Troopers helped responded to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames on I-84, milepost 120 eastbound, Gilliam County, on Aug. 29. The flames traveled uphill from the road, and Gilliam’s fire chief responded. The fire was stopped at less than two acres, with no structures threatened.
Two injury crashes. Aug. 29, a Ford Bronco towing a travel trailer left its lane at 55 mph when the left rear tire parted company with the vehicle at milepost 49 eastbound, I-84. The passengers were transported by ambulance for minor injuries. Aug. 31, a single vehicle rolled near Biggs Junction after apparently over-correcting. Occupants drove to the hospital; driver cited for speed and carelessness.
A hitchhiker on E. Second and Brewery Overpass was cited and released for failure to report annually as a sex offender Sept. 1.
A pickup driver, stopped for lack of a front license plate on I-84 on Sept. 1, got arrested for a warrant for escaping Washington Department of Corrections. They were arrested, and their dog taken to Home At Last.
Sept. 1, driver of a disabled car on I-84 in Gilliam County given courtesy ride to Arlington, and arrested en route upon discovery of a fail to appear warrant out of Clackamas County.
Sept. 1, driver of a Toyota Corolla stopped for speeding 93 mph on Highway 197 was arrested for DUII.
Sept. 2, a commercial driver stopped on I-84 got a criminal citation for giving false information to an officer after providing a commercial driver’s license which “clearly did not belong” to them.
