Hood River Police, Sept. 15 - 21

Notable incidents
Two theft reports. Shoplifting, theft from local business.
Five trespass arrests. In one incident, a local resident was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charge of criminal trespass II. In another, a Warm Springs resident was arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charges of fail to report as a sex offender and criminal trespass II.
Four DUII arrests. In one incident, a local resident was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for driving under the influence of alcohol. While operating a bicycle, they'd tried to throw this bike at a vehicle, prompting the vehicle’s driver to contact law enforcement. Thirdly, a Jefferson, Oregon resident was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving after piloting their vehicle off the road and down a ravine, which required rescue efforts to free them from inside the vehicle.
Two disorderly conduct arrests. In one, a local resident was cited for disorderly conduct and theft II after causing a disturbance at a grocery and shoplifting items.
Officers were dispatched to a county residence for a physical altercation involving family members. During the investigation, one person was detained in handcuffs.
Officers investigated went to an elementary school to investigate a possible child abuse case. A resident male was later arrested and lodged at NORCOR on charge of criminal mistreatment.
Officers took a report of a physical altercation between two juveniles at a school.
The Dalles Police, Sept. 20 - 27
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Domestic assault (one), DUII (one), felony domestic strangulation (one), failure to report (one), false information (one), mischief (one), parole and probation detainer (one), possession of controlled substance (three), public urination (three), restraining order violation (one), robbery (one), theft (three), trespass (three), warrant (eight).
Notable incidents
Nineteen animal calls. Dogs at large, unfounded allegation of animal neglect, missing dogs, barking dogs, dogs attacking dogs, welfare checks on dogs, wounded deer gone on arrival.
Extra patrols requested for a “Make America Great Again” flag wave on Second Street the evening of Sept. 20.
A 70-year-old Condon resident was arrested for third-degree theft and third-degree robbery after shoplifting a $10 screwdriver from a Sixth-Street store.
A vehicle reported stolen from Cherry Heights Road.
A prowler reported on West 11th Sept. 21. Checks, paperwork, laptop, backpack and airpods were missing.
A hit-and-run report.
Four males were reported fighting on West Sixth. One associated person was arrested and lodged at NORCOR.
11 mental health calls.
Multiple callers reported a small brush fire behind Fred Meyer on I-84 on Sept. 21. It was reported as 20-by-20 feet and moving slowly. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded.
A person was arrested on a full extradition warrant out of California. Another person was arrested for DUII in the same incident, after city and county officers stopped a vehicle and found a sterling .22 pistol in the driver’s pocket.
A non-injury vehicle crash between a blue sedan and silver vehicle on West Sixth. A court date was given.
Seven theft reports. Shoplifting (two incidents), backpack of fishing gear, $300 chainsaw and hedge trimmer, sign from building on Webber Street, items from vehicle, cooler full of items.
An unattended death.
One fraud report: Attempt to cash fake checks at a Kelly Avenue location.
A burglary report on Lewis Street. A helmet, TV and chainsaw were taken from a garage and put in a vehicle, witnesses said.
A person was cited for minor in possession of alcohol on East Ninth.
One vandalism report. A person allegedly smashed a window out of the reporting party’s car after an argument. That person was lodged on charge of criminal mischief, and the reporting party was lodged on charge of restraining order violation.
Wasco County Sheriff, Sept. 20 - 26

Oregon State Police, Sept. 13 - 27

Notable incidents
A pedestrian walking with their dog in the lane of travel on I-84 struck a vehicle from Idaho with their gas can, causing damage. A witness provided photos of the suspect walking away. A trooper responded and gave the driver a case number; the suspect was later identified and the case forwarded to the district attorney.
One hit-and-run. A white Buick Encore and a gray Tesla Model 3 collided on I-84 and the Buick failed to stop. The Tesla’s driver was given a crash report form. No injuries reported.
Seven non-injury crashes. A maroon commercial vehicle legally passed a blue Toyota Highlander and camp trailer, and sideswiped it, causing more than $2,500 in damage. Separately, a 51-year-old The Dalles resident crashed on Highway 216 when a deer ran out from behind the guardrail. Unable to react, the eastbound Jeep Commander hit the deer. While the damage was being photographed, the deer got up and ran away. In a third incident, a black Tesla left its lane on I-84, hit the median and was redirected off the road. The driver said they were changing the music and inadvertently gave steering input, and was warned for distracted driving. In another incident, a westbound white Volvo semi-truck and trailer changed lanes in I-84 and struck a white Promaster, pushing it into the guardrail. The occupants of the Promaster, which needed a tow, reported the Volvo speeding and driving in both lanes before the crash. The Volvo’s driver got three citations. Sixthly, an eastbound Toyota Tacoma’s driver saw two deer heading for Highway 30/Old Moody Road and honked at them. They rushed in front of the Tacoma, which hit both and was damaged, but drivable. And the driver of a Ram was cited after sideswiping and destroying about 400 feet of metal guardrail and posts, then coming to rest, closing the westbound lanes of I-84 for about five hours.
A commercial trailer caught fire on I-84 near milepost 54 westbound. The operator disconnected the trailer and was able to move the semi-truck. The fire spread to a tree, closing one lane for several hours.
Three injury crashes. OSP responded to a motorcycle crash on Highway 206, milepost 57, on Sept. 15. Heppner Fire and Ambulance arrived first and tended the rider, who was airlifted to a Washington hospital. Another motorcyclist and friend advised they were following the motorcycle when they saw it start to wobble and then crash. Separately, a deer leaped in front of a vehicle on a county road, which struck it, causing significant damage. The driver was transported to a local hospital. In the third incident, on Sept. 26, one of two motorcyclists on Highway 216 lost traction on gravel and low-sided near milepost 11. The rider was Lifeflighted to a Bend hospital for multiple injuries. Sherman County and Maupin EMS units responded along with OSP.
A trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding 84 mph in a 65 mph zone, and noticed the driver had a straw and foil with burnt fentanyl residue on their person. A report was forwarded to the district attorney.
Several people reported a commercial truck and flatbed trailer spewing garbage all over I-84. A trooper found the truck and saw the load was “leaking” in the wind. The driver was cited for offensive littering.
A caller reported a debris field on Historic Highway 30. A trooper found the vehicle on private property with damage consistent with sideswiping a rock wall. It had previously been reported as a potential DUII. The driver was contacted and educated.
A trooper watching the 10th and Washington intersection contacted a person who appeared lost and confused, and had dried blood on their face and coming from their ear. The trooper escorted them to the hospital, later learning the parking break had failed and their motorhome rolled over and drug them a short distance.
Two DUII arrests. In one incident, a driver stopped for reasonable suspicion of DUII gave a blood alcohol level of 0.21%. They were cited and released.
Theft of a backpack at a Biggs-Rufus gas station.
An under-21 driver was stopped for speeding on I-84, and handed over marijuana, a bong and an unopened beer. They were cited for minor in possession and the drugs seized for destruction.
Two anglers, one without a valid license, were cited after a trooper spotted them fishing with bait inside Deschutes State Park. A smallmouth bass and two peamouth were seized and donated to a local raptor center.
