Police Reports: May 22, 2024

A report of identity theft was taken from White Salmon on May 7.

A report of burglary was taken in White Salmon May 10, involving theft of fishing gear.

Two animal problems, one with ongoing investigation and one a dog issue, from White Salmon May 12.

The Dalles Police, May 10 - 17

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Burglary (one), disorderly conduct (two), DUII (one), harassment (two), mischief (two), parole violation (one), resisting arrest (one), strangulation (one), theft (one), trespass (two), warrant (five).

Notable incidents

Forty-six mental health calls.

Twenty-two animal calls logged. Welfare checks on dogs, barking dogs, dogs at large, cat issue, dog hit by car, attacks by dogs. And at 11:22 a.m. on May 13, a deputy on 10th Street noted, “Raccoon struck by a car. Had to wait as another raccoon drug it off the roadway.”

Seven theft reports. Items from residence, orange Subaru, can of beer, employee theft, riding lawn mower and generator, items from vehicle, $50.

Three warrant arrests. In one incident, a person was arrested for an outstanding warrant and possession of methamphetamine.

Two dog bites. One was reported from East Eighth, and the dog’s owner cited.

Two burglary reports. In one incident, a home on Dry Hollow was broken into during the night of May 10 and took cash. In another, a person allegedly broke into a Bret Clodfelter Way maintenance building and took tools, gas can, chainsaw, etc.

A motorcycle fire was reported at W. Sixth. One involved person put out most of the flames with their own fire extinguisher, and Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue was able to disconnect the battery and ensure it was safe.

One DUII arrest. A person was arrested on the charge of DUII near Cherry Heights on May 11.

A 9 mm handgun was seized. An officer contacted two people driving a maroon vehicle on E. Second May 13, and inquired about a gun he had previously seen in their glove box. Upon being informed that it was fake, the officer asked permission to look in the closed glove box and seized the weapon, which had at least one round jammed in the chamber.

Fraudulent use of a debit card was reported May 13.

A hit and run was reported from Mt. Hood Street May 14. A gray Toyota struck a black Suzi and left the scene. The suspect was identified Klickitat County Sheriff will follow up.

One vehicle crash report. A two-vehicle, non-injury, non-blacking crash on Sixth Street involved a white Chevy Tahoe and a white Chevy Cruiser on May 15. One vehicle was towed.

A person was arrested for disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and a local warrant, after allegedly attempting to slash a vehicle’s tires.

A subject was hunting for worms in Kramer Field, was informed that was trespassing, and left.

Wasco County Sheriff, May 10 - 15

Notable incidents

Deputies stopped 58 vehicles.

Nine dog calls and two calls for unspecified animals were logged.

Two warrant-related incidents were logged, on May 13 and May 15.

Two vehicle crashes were logged from Cherry Heights and Highway 30.

A fraud call came from Tygh Valley Road on May 11.

A search and rescue was called on May 11, for an unspecific location.

A burglary call came from Highway 197 on May 11.

A warrant-related incident was logged from Sixth and Hostetler.

A theft call came from Highway 216 on May 15.

Oregon State Police, May 10 - 17

The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (six), warrant (one).

Notable incidents

Five DUII arrests. In one incident on May 11, a trooper was completing a traffic stop when a small silver Toyota sedan passed dangerously close to his vehicle at a high rate of speed. Overtaking the speeding vehicle, the trooper also saw it fail to obey a traffic control device. He stopped the sedan and observed multiple signs of impairment. The driver, after initially refusing to cooperate, agreed to complete field sobriety tests under the Rohrs admonishment. They were cited and released for DUII.

Two injury crashes. In one incident, the driver and passenger of a green Nissan pickup were transported to an area hospital for injuries after their vehicle struck a Orange Caterpillar backhoe on Highway 30 and Oregon Street, Mosier, on May 13. While working on the shoulder, the backhoe’s rear extended well into the lane of travel. The Nissan sustained heavy front-end damage. In another incident, a trooper responded to a two-vehicle collision with one injured person at Summit Drive and Wy’east Road, Odell, on May 13. One vehicle had left the scene before exchanging information. The other driver was transported to an area hospital for injuries. The driver who left the scene was later located and issued four citations.

One non-injury crash. A semi-truck with trailer and a Porsche Cayenne, collided on I-84 near milepost 46 westbound on May 16. The semi-truck, in the right lane, did not see the Porsche, which was traveling in the left lane. The semi-truck moved over, forcing the Porsche into the guardrail, and received a citation for unlawful lane change.

A driver was cited for menacing another driver with a Glock while westbound on I-84 near milepost 94. A trooper responded to the report of menacing on May 16, after the victim stated the driver of a green Ford Ranger pickup with an Oregon license held a pistol in the air during a dispute over driving behavior. The pickup was stopped. The driver admitted to lifting a holstered pistol during the dispute. The Glock was seized as evidence and the driver issued a citation.
