The Dalles Police, Jan. 26 - Feb 2
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (one), harassment (one), menacing (one), parole and probation detainer (one), reckless burning (one), reckless driving (one), theft (one), trespass (two).
Notable incidents
One theft arrest. A local was arrested for theft from City Hall, and also issued a detainer.
An officer found two “share the road” license plates in the snow Jan. 29. The plates’ registered owner was stored at the police department in bicycle impound for safekeeping; an officer will contact DMV to locate the registered owner.
Twenty-three animal calls recorded. Barking dog complaints, dogs at large, dog chasing person, request for assistance getting dog out from underneath recliner, deer trying to crawl away from the Sorosis Park rose garden with a broken leg, beaver killed by a vehicle; the beaver was dropped off at ODFW to process. In one incident, a caller reported “very large claw marks” in a yard on Seventh Street. In another, a stolen dog was found by an officer at Home At Last, and reunited with its owner.
Nine theft reports. Incidents included work laptop, online theft report, theft from business, purse, customer refusing to pay.
Five burglary reports. In one incident, a reporting party stated someone broke a window at a Snipes Street building over the weekend, and stole a cash register containing $200, leaving broken glass everywhere. In another incident, officers responded to a panic alarm for a burglary at a Sixth Street business Jan. 30. They arrived to find employees all the way in the back and two people walking down an alley. “I think I found the till leaning up against a pillar under Webber overpass,” noted an officer in logs. “Money is still in it.” In a third incident, a Cherry Heights drive-thru window was broken. And in two incidents, the windows of Sixth Street businesses were pried open and cash registers taken.
Four reports of identity theft.
Two vehicle crashes. In one incident, two red trucks and a gray truck crashed in Sixth Street Jan. 29. “Fluid coming out of the rigs,” noted a log. Public Works was notified. In another incident, a two-vehicle crash took place on West Sixth, and one party called in when the other driver proved not to have insurance.
Two mental health calls.
One robbery report. A reporting party stated they were robbed at a gas pumps on Sixth Street. The robber reportedly wore a fabric mask and gray hoodie. A drone and a police dog were called out. “Following foot tracks in the snow,” read one comment in logs. The tracks led to a Dirt Huggers parking lot. Officers worked the area before terminating the canine tracking. No arrest was recorded.
A stolen U-haul trailer, stolen in Montana, was recovered from Sixth Street. Cameras recorded an individual dropping it off after 10 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
A patio caught fire on Mill Creek Road, 8:33 a.m. on Jan. 27, and all Southbound traffic was blocked a few minutes later. Two people and a “lot of animals” were in residence. The reporting party believed heat lamps started the fire. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office and The Dalles Police responded to put out the single-story wood frame. Heavy fire on the exterior of the patio transfered to the house, and the animals were evacuated. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue also responded and Mosier was en route with an engine at 9:04 a.m. Hood River and Dufur were also toned. A chaplain was requested and Red Cross info given.
A fire was reported on West Seventh Jan. 28. At 6:50 a.m., black smoke was sighted. Two calls came in. Mosier and Dallesport were toned for the fully-involved camp trailer. A local person was found outside the camp trailer, and advised they had a candle burning in the camper and it caught fire while they were sleeping. They had previously been trespassed from the property, and were arrested for trespass and reckless burning.
An off-duty officer saw teenagers skateboarding and banging their skateboard on the handrails of a Second Street property, and requested an on-duty officer let them know that “there is a skate park right down the street.”
One hit and run report. One vehicle struck another near West 10th/Cherry Heights, then took off.
Library staff asked for officer assistance disposing of a knife found on library grounds. A case number was taken.
A reporting party stated a vehicle hit them and their dogs, who were walking near Seventh and Richland streets. The suspect vehicle took off without stopping.
Officers responded to a Seventh Street fire Jan. 2. The reporting party stated they “set the house on fire on purpose.” Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue also responded to the burning single-story duplex. Law enforcement made entry, detained and arrested the reporting party on the charge of arson. Mosier and Dallesport also responded. About 20 minutes after the first call the flames were knocked down, but the fire was still active.

Notable incidents
Seven animal calls. Dogs at large, feral cats fighting, alleged cougar tracks which were forwarded to ODFW. In one incident, a resident live-trapped a chicken-killing dog and deputies lodged it at Home At Last.
Four mental health calls.
A moped stolen from The Dalles was located by Hood River Police, and removed from stolen listings.
One theft report. A trailcam was reported stolen from Highway 197. Estimated replacement costs were $300.
A single-vehicle, non-injury vehicle crash took place on Highway 197 on Jan. 1. The vehicle did not roll, but required a tow.
Oregon State Police, Jan. 26 - Feb 1
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (one), recklessly endangering another person (one), reckless driving (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
One DUII arrest. In one incident, troopers received a driving complaint of a vehicle speeding in excess of 100 mph on I-84 in Wasco County. A trooper located and stopped the vehicle and noted multiple indicators of impairment. The driver was arrested for DUII, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person; a subsequent breath test revealed a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit.
Three injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Jan. 26 involving a white Toyota Highlander that left I-84 near milepost 73 westbound and rolled down a steep embankment. The driver reported they lost control on standing water, causing the crash. They were transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was towed. In another incident, a blue Toyota Corolla was involved in a road-rage incident with a white Volkswagon Jetta. The Corolla’s driver lost control when they were cut off, and crashed, blocking the fast lane. The Corolla was towed, its driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital for evaluation and the driver cited; the Jetta did not stop. In a third incident, a white Subaru Crosstrek pulled in front of a northbound red Mazda on State Route 35, failing to yield right-of-way. The Subaru flipped in the collision and came to rest on the driver’s side; the driver was extracted by emergency personnel and transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Three non-injury vehicle crashes. In one incident, a trooper responded to a rockslide in the roadway on Jan. 27, near milepost 113 eastbound on I-84 in Sherman County. OSP and ODOT were arriving when a white Honda Odyssey struck one of the rocks, disabling the vehicle, which had to be towed. In another incident, a white Tesla Model Y collided with some boulders from a rockslide on I-84 near milepost 89.5 eastbound Jan. 29, damaging the front portion of the vehicle, which was towed.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife forwarded OSP information on a Washington resident purchasing resident hunting/angling licenses in Oregon and Washington. The individual received a citation.
